It’s the cliche bad executive note: “This character doesn’t feel likeable.” Ooh boy, does this one rile the blood! Often (though not always) said with a gendered component, there’s really no note that makes writers as frustrated. But within this frankly dumb and bad note, there’s a real conundrum: how do you make a character flawed and difficult, but not hateable (unless that’s your goal)?
